Freelance Translation Project Manager or Assistant

Job description
German Translation & Interpreting Services is a specialist legal and financial language service provider based in London predominately working from German to English and English to German.  Our clients are leading financial services institutions and major law firms.
We are currently looking for a part-time Project Manager or Assistant with considerable previous experience in law and/or finance. This role requires a combination of project management, linguistic and IT skills to successfully deliver projects to many high profile clients.
The successful applicant will work directly with the Senior Project Manager.  This position would suit a person with flexible availability as working hours would  range starting from usually two days a week to full-time over several weeks during peak times with an option of this position becoming a full-time employment.

Responsibilities include:

• Support all aspects of office and project administration;
  
  
• Assist with managing workflows and processes of translation projects from inception to completion following  defined rules and procedures, including DIN 2345 converting soon to compliance with the new European DIN EN 15038  norm;

• Source suitable translators;
  
  
• Planning, scheduling, monitoring and supporting the progress of multiple projects, including selecting and assigning translation teams, negotiating deadlines and coordinating production with translators and proofreaders ensuring the smooth operation of day to day business;

• Terminology Management, including terminology extraction, terminology translation and definition creation, and pre-translation.  Regularly compile and update glossaries, extract terminology from previously translated documents and maintain translation memories;

• Handling questions from translators;
  
  
• Ensuring  project information is correctly maintained, keeping the translator and project database up to date, recording jobs as they are received from our customers, processed and returned, maintaining live management status and data. This includes keeping  invoices up to date;
  
  
• Client Relationship Management, working directly with our clients;
  

• Quality Processes will  be a key aspect of your role, including final checking of translations.

Skills and experience required:

• A proven track record of previous experience  in the translation industry with  experience of translating financial or legal texts and project management;
  
  
• Fluency in German and English. Must be native speaker of either English or German. Other European languages can be an advantage;

• Client facing experience with excellent and friendly communication and presentation skills including good telephone manner;
  
  
• Educated to degree level. If degree is not in translation must have similar qualifications linked to specialised subject of  Law or Finance;

• High level of IT literacy including translation memory and terminology tools;

• Ability to prioritise whilst handling multiple projects simultaneously in a sometimes hectic, time sensitive environment;

• Ability to follow strict Quality Assurance procedures;

• Good organisational and time management skills;
  
  
• Dependability and conscientious approach to work;
